Going Solar in Yukon
The Yukon may be remote, but it is a leader in territorial renewable energy and offers compelling conditions for residential solar. Long summer days provide abundant solar generation potential, and the territory's high energy costs make solar an increasingly attractive investment for Yukon homeowners.
Note: The federal Canada Greener Homes Grant (closed February 2024) and Canada Greener Homes Loan (closed October 2025) are no longer accepting new applications. Yukon homeowners can still benefit from Yukon Energy's net metering program and the territorial government's Energy Efficiency Incentive Program.
Below are the Yukon solar incentives and rebates that may benefit you.
Yukon Solar Incentives, Rebates, And Benefits
Canada Greener Homes Grant (Closed Feb 2024)
The Canada Greener Homes Grant closed to new applications in February 2024 (program ran May 2021–February 2024). No new applications are being accepted. Existing approved applicants may still complete their claims. Visit NRCan.gc.ca for information on any successor federal programs.
Canada Greener Homes Loan (Closed Oct 2025)
The Canada Greener Homes Loan closed in October 2025 (final application deadline was January 20, 2026). No new applications are being accepted. Visit NRCan.gc.ca for information on any successor federal financing programs.
Yukon Energy Efficiency Incentive Program
The Yukon government's Energy Efficiency Incentive Program (EEIP) provides rebates for a range of home energy improvements. The program's home energy assessment can identify the full suite of improvements that, combined with solar, will maximize your home's performance.
Yukon Energy Net Metering
Yukon Energy's net metering program allows residential solar owners to receive credits for excess generation. The program makes it possible for Yukon homeowners to significantly offset their annual electricity costs despite the seasonal variation in solar production.
Yukon Net Metering
Yukon Energy's net metering program allows residential customers with solar systems up to 20 kW to receive credits for excess generation at the displacement rate. The Yukon's long summer days allow for substantial solar production that can offset winter consumption through accumulated credits.
Additional Yukon Solar Programs
Yukon Home Retrofit Program
The Yukon government's home retrofit programs offer funding for energy efficiency improvements to Yukon homes. These programs can be combined with solar installations to create a comprehensive home energy upgrade that dramatically reduces heating and electricity costs.
Off-Grid Solar Support
For Yukon homeowners in off-grid locations, the territorial government offers specific programs supporting solar-battery hybrid systems. These systems can dramatically reduce or eliminate diesel generator dependence, providing both financial and environmental benefits.
Yukon Solar Incentives — At A Glance
The Yukon's high energy costs and strong summer solar resources make solar an excellent investment. Territorial programs and net metering ensure Yukon homeowners can access solar with strong long-term returns.
